My Students

I am a first-year teacher (and former Marine!) with a class of 18 second-grade student at a diverse school in a high-poverty area of Central Florida.

Eighty percent of children in my internship class at the school qualified for free or reduced lunch last year. My school includes many unique student populations, including exceptional students and a high percentage of English Language Learners. My students are full of energy and enthusiasm and love to learn! Though I have provided my classroom with many necessary materials and resources, including books and other media, my students are in need of literature that meets their vastly differing interests and abilities.

My Project

A classroom library that includes quality literature will help my students to master state and national standards and to develop essential literacy skills. Books will be used in collaborative and independent settings to increase proficiency in phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

High-interest, high-quality literature will open new worlds for my students as they embark on their journeys as lifelong readers!

Donations to this project will ensure that my students have access to a variety of nonfiction, fiction, and informational texts.
