My students need the complete set of single student CD read-alongs to help them build fluency and acquire the requisite foundational skills needed for reading success.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Readers are leaders and leaders are readers and the only way to become a better reader is by reading. My team of learners believe this and are working hard to become better readers. Because I recognize the power of literacy, I want to provide many opportunities for them to have reading success.
I serve a very diverse class of 19 kindergarten students.
They came to kindergarten as seasoned learners with a wide range of past experiences and different learning styles and rates. They have a variety of home experiences and some have special learning and developmental challenges. Although it is a very social class, some of the students prefer and work best alone. While all of the students enjoy hands-on learning and working as a team, they also enjoy being independent learners. While this community of learners have an assortment of interests, they all believe that they are superstar learners.
My Project
The complete set of the single student CD read-alongs will change my students' lives for the better as it becomes an important component of our literacy program. The students will be able to enjoy some of their favorite stories on their own and gain more confidence as they become independent readers. This fluency building series will provide opportunities for the students to listen, follow along with the story, and build fluency independently. Since we work in learning stations throughout the day and the students have individualized learning assignments, this read-along set will be the perfect addition to our program by helping me address our students' individual learning patterns and rates. I will be able to enhance our rich environment for literacy learning with stimulating stories. Also,I will be able to plan and design appropriate learning experiences and provide many opportunities for my students to experience the power of literacy and exposure to all genres of literature.
Having the complete set of the single student CD read-alongs in my class will make a significant impact upon my students as they provide an organized way for me to develop their appreciation of literature and learning through exposing them to different genres of literature.
This resource will help me provide opportunities for my students to read on their own and make their own choices about reading selections. Also, they will gain confidence as these leaders become better readers.
