My Project

My students are extremely passionate about aerospace engineering. For the past 3 years, we have competed in different space competitions. This year, I was accepted into a Rocket Academy through NASA where I was trained by subject matter experts on using rocketry to teach math, science, and engineering. My students will build their model rockets, then create replicas in CAD software that will do launch simulations. Using mathematical equations for desired terminal velocity to determine surface area, they will then be able to use the materials provided to create different size and shape parachutes to ensure a safe landing.

This activity will challenge my students through real-world problem solving while also allowing them to build upon their passion for aerospace engineering.

My students were identified as gifted and talented by their teachers and parents. They come from eight different schools around the city to be a part of this special program where they can dive deeper into content they love. Because of their exceptional critical thinking and creativity, I am constantly trying to find new ways to challenge them and get them thinking outside the box.

They have successfully built their first model rockets. These materials will allow them to launch them and learn about rocket trajectory, descent velocity, and more.
