This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are inner-city high school students who are eager to learn, try new things, and search for better opportunities. My school is located in a large, urban city. Of our thirty-one hundred students, ninety-four percent are low-income, ten percent of the students have disabilities, and eight percent are English Language Learners. I am extremely excited to teach for Chicago Public Schools. I teach in this major city where diversity abounds, but segregation still serves as a dividing line restricting students from experiencing many opportunities.

Latinos Juntos is a Latin dance program known for its emphasis on family and potential for success.

Always energetic and always adapting, LJDT strives to prove that anyone can become a great dancer when given the chance. Our dance routines have ranged from bachata and high-energy salsa to reggaeton and Latin fusion. We strive to highlight the new talent that is forming the future of this team. Latinos Juntos focus on learning the foundation of various Latin dance styles all while developing strong relationships, leadership skills, and lifelong learners. Each skill is centered around five themes that are important to us: unity, diversity, community, pride, and empowerment. 

My Project

Over the last five years,LJDT has bloomed into a staple high school Latin dance team known for its emphasis on family and potential for success.

Tempting bachata and high-energy salsa blend with hip hop in this brand new piece to highlight the new talent that is forming the future of this team. Latinos Juntos focus on learning the foundation of various Latin dance styles all while developing strong relationships, leadership skills, and lifelong learners. Each skill is centered around these five themes: unity, diversity, community, pride, and empowerment. Latinos Juntos performs at a variety of venues and events. The team works hard and practices throughout all kinds of weather but needs team warm-up jackets to keep their muscles warm and flexible during the cold weather months.
