This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year my ASB Leadership class is hosting our 2nd Annual Fiesta Friday event in honor of Latino Heritage Month. At John F. Kennedy High School we have almost 80% of students who have Latino ancestry. Our first Fiesta Friday last year resulted in high student engagement from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. So much that students are already asking for our event this year. Our Fiesta Friday includes: local business Latino food trucks, live music, student performances, student gifts, games and more.

To fully bring Fiesta Friday to life, we need financial support for printing and supplies that will be distributed to students for free.

Specifically, we are in high need of a printer to be able to fully advertise our event to students and families. We currently do not have access to a color printer and are desperate for one. Secondly, we will be gifting candy bags to students who dress up 4 times during our Latino Heritage Month Spirit Week, the week of Fiesta Friday. Previously our school has struggle with school spirit, therefore incentives like candy helps motivate students to dress up. Lastly, we are requesting financial support for aguas frescas cups. Leadership students will be making aguas frescas to give out for free to the first 150 students to show up to our event. Again, it is an incentive to increase positive student engagement.

My students and I are so excited to host the 2nd Annual Fiesta Friday at the K! Your support is so valuable to our school community!
