Our high school is what most places call a "magnet school." Students come from all over the city to take a test in order to attend. Our high school is arguably the most racially diverse with about one-fourth of our students being African-American, Asian, Latino, and white.
More than 50% of my students are from families below the federal poverty level.
Nonetheless, we have a 100% college acceptance rate. Our students work hard, but they need more than what the district provides.
My Project
There are many great internet-based activities that I can do with my Latin and ancient Greek students, but often there are no Chromebook carts available. While our school has multiple Chromebook carts, there are not enough to go around. For every seven teachers, there is only one Chromebook cart. That is not a good ratio at all! More carts filled with new ChromeBooks will create greater access to technology in the classroom, and this access translates into a better educational experience for our students.
Students can do all sorts of worthwhile classroom activities using ChromeBooks, such as working on group projects, doing research, and taking practice tests, to name a few.
The more Chromebook carts we have, the better my fellow teachers and I can provide students with access to the wealth of information and applications available on the Internet!
