This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help give my third graders lasting memories through a class pet! A fish tank with beautiful fish and a classroom garden will provide so many opportunities for growth in my students. These supplies will give us everything we need to care for our fish and garden. The two aquariums will enable students to take turns caring and feeding the fish. The slow-feeding supplies will help us keep our fish fed during long breaks.

Having a pet in the classroom teaches valuable lessons.

I believe that my students will find a lot of joy in having a classroom pet, as many do not take on that responsibility at home. Having a class pet and garden will provide students the opportunity to learn responsibility in feeding, cleaning and nurturing for an animal and plants. There are so many academic lessons that can be learned through a pet as well. Observing the animal's behaviors, meeting its needs, journaling responses, and creative writing prompts are just a few examples of extension activities the students will be able to engage in! A pet may also offer comfort and emotional support to students, as well as contribute to a safe learning environment.
