This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the head coach of the FIRST Robotics Challenge team 3314, the Mechanical Mustangs. We are located in a suburban school district in northern NJ. We have a highly diverse school population, with over 20 different languages spoken at home. Our robotics team had an incredible 2023-24 season - we attended 5 competitions including 3 district events, our FIRST Mid-Atlantic District Championship in PA, and the FIRST [World] Championship in Houston, TX. We won 4 engineering awards including the Autonomous Award at our district championship which celebrates the team that has demonstrated consistent, reliable, high-performance robot operation during autonomously managed actions. Evaluation is based on the robot’s ability to sense its surroundings, position itself or onboard mechanisms appropriately, and execute tasks.

Robotics allows students to learn how to code, design, fabricate, and strategize; they gain incredible teamwork skills, learning how to collaborate with both adults and students.

They learn communication skills, documentation skills, and how to represent our town in a way that we are proud to be a Mechanical Mustang. This program has helped us to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers in our town.

The Mechanical Mustangs need a laser cutting system in order to be able to quickly prototype manipulators and various mechanisms for our machine. Since we only have six weeks to fully design and fabricate the machine, having a high quality laser cutter will definitely improve our ability to design and fabricate prototypes during the first 3 weeks of build season. This is one of the key areas we need to enhance in our current program. This is part 3 of 3 for all of the components for this laser cutting system which will include fabrication supplies, installation hardware, and other components.
