Lasagna Garden of Learning

My students need seeds, humus, a small greenhouse(for winter observation), worm composter, and fertilizer.

We would love to make something special out of nothing. A lasagna garden uses an old cardboard box along with compost and soil piled on top of it.

The children do not have supplies or personal experiences with gardening. They are so excited about getting their hands dirty and taking an active role in gardening.

The garden is right outside the classroom. They will compost their lunch and maintain the garden at recess. The Science curriculum for third grade has a strong focus on Soil and Structures of Life. The garden will provide the children with "hands-on" learning. I have to teach the standard course of study so I cannot think of a better way to do it!

Your help will make these children realize they can create something out of nothing. All they have to do is love and care for the garden and it will grow!
