My students made the choice to come to an art and design school to get more exposure to different types of art. We're going into this year with a brand new curriculum focused on different types of media. For the first time, my students have the opportunity to take multiple levels of photography classes, and they're so excited about it!
My students are wonderful and sassy, completely in love with any type of artwork that expresses their own personal voice and experiences.
Learning photography does not just end at taking the image on the camera - a huge part of any photography class is learning the fine detail process of the print. In our new photography classes, my students need to learn how to print for themselves.
We currently have one printer, but it is starting to have issues due to how much we print.
Having a second printer will alleviate some of that, as well as give students the opportunities to make more images quickly. The more images they have the opportunity to hold in their hands, the faster they learn!
This additional printer will help my students learn more about the process of making photographs, not just taking them!
A photographic print is the physical art piece in most cases, but this printer will also give my students the opportunity to print contact sheets, test prints, digital negatives, and work with alternative printing methods. This is all a part of learning about the bigger goal - being a photographer for a potential career!
