This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are ready and willing to take on the challenges of a 21st century education. They have many diverse styles of learning and need exposure to 21st century learning resources. They need to collaborate with their peers and lead by example.
We are 95% African-American, 2% Haitian-American, 2% Hispanic and 1% Caucasian with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Our school is located in the inner city of Miami, Florida. Although, our students are faced with many socio economic challenges, they seek a high quality education to become productive citizens.
My Project
Working in small groups, my students will collaborate to complete online real-world math projects that include geometry in action (i.e. construction planning), finance in action (i.e. business planning); menu math (restaurant planning); etc. This will enhance their long-term retention of math concepts and applications.
The laptops will enable student teams to work collaboratively on real-world math projects.
Each team member will work on different aspects of each project. Teamwork and leadership skills will be infused and cultivated through this process. Presentation skills will also be included as each team presents their projects to the class. Organizational skills will evolve as students prioritize and organize their assignments.
