I am a high school Social Studies teacher in a high needs school district in upstate New York. I teach 10th grade Global Studies and 12th grade Government and Economics.

My school district lacks the resources to provide adequate technology in the classroom to help the students become competitive in today's world.

I would like to get two notebook computers for my classes so that my students may have continual access throughout the years and to make technology more integrated into my curriculum. One of the projects I am hoping to do is have the 10th grade students research loan applicants on a global microfinance website like Kiva.org. The students will thoroughly research the country of the applicant to help in determining who they would like to loan money to. They will present their recommendation to my 12th grade Economic classes who will weigh all the candidates and make the final decision on how the money will be allocated. The 10th graders will be able to see the results and progress made on the repayment of the loans and, when they are 12th graders, be the ones making the final decisions. This project would allow my students the opportunity to participate actively in shaping the world they live in. Many of my students come from disadvantaged homes and this would allow them to witness how a little effort can make a difference.

Your donation will allow my students to be able to actively participate in skills needed for the 21st century and take an active interest in their education which will propel them toward a college degree.
