The children of today want to be computer savvy. We must ensure they are educated in financial literacy to prevent a repeat recession. Success and growth for our children are dependent upon educating them today. We need to build the foundation at a young age. The time is now to educate.
High-need, high poverty, and a high unemployment rate are characteristics that describe our community, which makes it difficult for my third-grade students to have things outside the curriculum standards.
Unfortunately, poverty and unemployment rates are still high. I see my students wanting to be successful and do their best, but situations in our world today cause hardships on families, especially in rural areas. My students love learning about money and like to use technology to do their assignments. However, they lack the necessary skills in programs, such as Microsoft office programs. They need to learn more about the ever-changing world.
"Laptops for Community Learning" is aimed at providing students with hands-on technology by instilling the skills of keyboarding and laptop skills, plus becoming familiar with Microsoft Office programs. Our first project will focus on keyboarding and using Microsoft Office features, such as clip art and borders. Each student will participate with our community laptop. We want to encourage these opportunities for our students to make and build on computer skills, so they become lifelong learners of technology.
My students need to progress in a technology-dominated society and have the opportunities to succeed in this competitive world.
All students should have equal opportunity to advance, attend college, and compete for career choices. Help us succeed by beginning our endeavor into the unknown world of technology.
