Help me give my students access to computers at home. These laptops will be reserved for students to check out for assignments at home when they would normally have to stay after school or through lunch to work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 7 classes full of bright and purposeful 9th through 12th grade academically high-risk students who struggle to overcome the poverty and low academic expectations they were raised in. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to feed their bodies while the teachers work hard to feed their minds and intellectual curiosity.
We have over 140 students currently learning computer science to overcome the digital divide and provide them skills critical for their future.
They learn through hands-on projects based on real-world problems to invest them in the knowledge that they are gaining through these courses.
Our school serves an underrepresented minority community in Austin, Texas. The students work hard to learn, overcoming language gaps and a lack of access to technology. Our school is working to expose students to technology and develop a strong sense of digital citizenship. Unfortunately, with only a few laptop carts shared through the whole high school, there are often not enough computers for student partners to work on their lessons.
My Project
Our students desperately need these computers to achieve their dreams of going to college and competing with more privileged scholars. Coming from a poor community, very few of our students can afford computers at home so the only access they have is through our school. The result is students have to stay hours after school or sacrifice their lunch period to complete their work.
These laptops are desperately needed to help our students compete and to overcome the hardships they face every day.
We already have these computers picked out, but we need your help in getting these into our students' hands! The donations to this project will help to improve our students' digital literacy through authentic, meaningful use and will provide them with much needed work time at home.
Providing students with this access to computers will help them better utilize their time to overcome the educational and economic disadvantages that have held so many of their peers behind for generations. We will use these computers to aid them in the process of becoming better digital citizens and more effective scholars. As teachers, we have done our best to provide them rigorous instruction and meaningful lessons. Yet we truly need your help to support our students beyond the walls of our campus.
