Laptop Learning

My students need a laptop on which they can type assignments, complete research, and enrich their learning.

My Students

In a struggling public school, access to technology is a constant challenge. Students are not exposed to basic technology that is ubiquitous in future career and education paths.

My students are an enthusiastic group that need the most exciting lessons to become invested in a topic.

Many of my students are on reduced or free lunch programs and have unstable home lives. These 11th and 12th grade students have chosen to continue the up-hill climb to get their high school diploma in a school that sees a large drop-out rate after the 9th grade. Low test scores and low expectations are a constant challenge at our high school and we are working hard to break the negative stigma surrounding our school.

My Project

A classroom laptop is a gateway to a world of learning that has been barred to my students since the beginning of the year. With multiple projects that require research, my students need Internet access and exposure to technology in order to complete classroom projects. Furthermore, college and careers demand a certain level of tech know how, thus this piece of equipment is essential. Not only will students be able to type essays, research projects, and complete extension activities, such as interactive online chemistry mysteries, but I will be able to take my work on the road. I can then put even more hours into making my lessons exciting and meaningful.

My students often do not have access to the Internet, let alone a computer at their houses.

Thus, a technological access point will grant them precious exposure to technology and practice researching scientific topics through the internet. My school cannot provide students with such an opportunity, thus I implore you to gift my students with a chance to experience technology and expand their view of the world.
