My Students
I teach 21 first grade students in a high poverty school in Washington, DC, where over 99% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. The children's needs are very diverse, as they operate at varying skill levels and it is our goal at my school to find resources to make sure everyone's needs are met. We also always need basic supplies to keep our classroom run smoothly. Students and families' abilities to contribute are limited, so we look to donors to fill in the gaps.
My Project
Every students gets on laptops twice each day. This allows me to pull students in small groups to more specifically address their educational needs. It also gives students a chance to access two of our great computer-based learning programs- Lexia and iReady.
Without laptops, students would be unable to access all the blended learning opportunities we have for them.
We currently have laptops in our classroom but unfortunately, one broke due to the wear and tear of being used by six year olds for multiple years. A replacement Chromebook would allow our classroom to continue to function smoothly.
