Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public career academy high school in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood on the west side of Chicago. They are about 75% Latinx and 20% African American. Approximately 88% of our students are low income.

They are wonderful young people that display an inquisitive drive to learn as much as possible and a great sense of humor and intelligence.

Many of our students will be the first in their families to attend college or a vocational program. They want to pursue degrees in education, law, the medical field, the arts, and technology.

I am hopeful that my students will be change-makers not only at school but in their communities. Many of them take on leadership roles in their clubs, activities, and sports and still others lend a helping hand when their peers need them. They overcome adversity everyday in order to achieve their academic and personal goals.

My Project

My students and I need a safe and secure place to store our 32 new Chromebooks!

A charging cart will help keep our new Chromebooks charged, secure, and locked so that they can be used responsibly by students for years to come.

Students can use the technology for projects, college applications, scholarships, job/internship opportunities, to watch review videos, work on assignments, and conduct research. Many students do not have devices at home, so having a working Chromebook stored safely in class is integral in functioning in a 21st Century classroom.
