Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how boring biology was when we were students and the teacher just kept talking and talking.... I want to make these ideas real for my students -so they can see it, and then understand it better.

Many of my students don't even have access to computers at home and they have to rely on the public library to do research.

The problem is, many have jobs, or family responsibilities which limit the time they have to go to the library when it is open. They recognize that their ticket out of the projects is a solid education, but they don't have the resources to compete with students in wealthier areas. My students are curious about the world, and how their bodies work, but having never traveled outside of their neighborhood have a hard time picturing ideas or places in their mind through descriptions.

My Project

A laptop would allow my classes to be more dynamic, visual, and engaging. Since lab materials are also limited, a laptop would allow me to do virtual interactive labs, project videos of animals in their natural habitats, do virtual cloning lab activities, interactive predator prey simulations, evolution animations, and so much more.

I currently teach 170 students each day.

A more engaging class will help each of them succeed - i can reach the visual learners, the students with attention issues, the ones who just get tired of my voice each and every day. This is a chance to inspire so many students to learn, to inquire, and to reach for the stars.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
