This year, I am excited to be greeted by twenty of my littlest best friends. Seven and eight-year-olds are the most curious, compassionate, and courageous learners. They love to sing, dance, play, and paint. Eating together is such an engaging time to build our relationships, share thoughts, ask questions, share dad jokes, and laugh. The majority of my friends come from low-income families and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Their primary language is not English.

My hope this year is to provide a safe place for learning and play that will increase our vocabulary and understanding of our language.
Golf is not something most 7-year-olds have been exposed to. This new game of golf has many little animals and can be set up in the classroom during indoor recess. Each animal brings with it new vocabulary about what it looks like, its habitats, its animal defense mechanisms, and what it eats.
A hopscotch rug (with Bean Bags) is an excellent activity to have in the back of the room for students who have wiggles and need some movement. Bean Bags will be used both indoors and outdoors to play tic-tac-toe and relays, while the Chinese jump ropes provide a way for students to play alone using a chair or to play with a partner. Chalk, Jump rope, and Playground Balls will be used to play traditional games and team sports.
