Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I am teaching in a different grade level! I will be teaching 1st grade at a Title I school in an inner-city area of Southern California where all of the students qualify for free and/or reduced-price lunch. Our school demographic includes students from all different kinds of backgrounds and nationalities with over 30 different languages spoken in the community.

As a teacher, I want to ensure that school is a fun and engaging place for all students to set and reach their goals, academically, socially, and emotionally!

Moving to a different grade level can be challenging because I have to scramble for supplies to make sure that my students get the utmost learning experience. The students at my school and in our community are creative individuals and are always striving for academic success. They get excited about learning and work very hard every day to get a good education.

My Project

Students learn best when they are engaged. Every day, my students will have an hour of Literacy centers, where they get to learn through exploration and interactive activities. They will rotate to different academic stations for 15 minutes to build on their phonics, sound and letter recognition, word families, vocabulary, sight words, fluency, and writing.

Not only are my students working to build their literacy skills, but they are building their love for learning!

Working with the hands-on materials, my students are able to match the pictures to words, sounds, word families, homophones, blends, and so much more. They are getting the opportunity to learn at their own pace and being able to access the work in a fun way! Please give my students get the materials and resources they deserve to develop their reading and writing skills!
