My kindergarteners come to school every day excited and eager to try new things and be brave learners. We know that we may make mistakes and that we may get messy, but we always try our best and learn from whatever happens. We are a team.
I love my class because of its immense diversity.
Our school is a bridge between low-income and upper-middle-class neighborhoods outside of Houston. Due to this unique situation, we have students of every nationality, religion, race, and family makeup. We have special needs, GT, and English Language Learners. A lot of our students have a tough home life, and many of our kids need to be on a free/reduced-priced lunch program or a backpack program to have food on the weekends. Many of our families and teachers are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, which devastated our community.
Because of this, we sometimes have a disparity between the accessibility of resources, especially with technology and innovative supplies/books/games. Even so, these kids are resilient and brilliant and they all deserve the VERY, VERY best opportunities and education we can give them. That's my goal every day! Join me!
My Project
Each one of the items requested has a specific purpose in my lessons. The magnetic learning boards will be used in centers because kids have a hard time keeping loose manipulatives together and in a specific group. These magnetic boards are a perfect solution, as they attach to each other. This is also great for motor skills!
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful learning.
Being able to conduct their own learning lesson is empowering for all learners, but especially for my little guys who are just beginning to be independent! They love to get out their own materials, to perform their task at their own pace, and then to be able to clean it up and put it away by themselves. Magic!
The STEM blocks, learning lacers, and build-a-number houses are additional manipulatives that I feel will add to their learning, increase their motor skills, and allow them independence.
