This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located within a community that does not face the same daily challenges as a large majority of our students. There are not many recreational experiences available for students in urban high schools, due to financial needs. Our students need programs that provide a challenging and positive experience, something to keep them away from the violence in their communities.

Our school's population is represented mostly by students from lower-income households, second language learners, and many students with disabilities.

As an entire school, we struggle to raise attendance rates. By offering access to recreational sports, I believe that we might just garner interest in a group of students, to positively impact their attendance.

My Project

My plan is to purchase multiple sets of lacrosse equipment, to build a recreational indoor lacrosse program from the ground up. My goal is to help our students to understand the value and joy in team sports, endurance, and challenge in learning something new.

Often, urban high schools focus more on basketball and football, by donating to this project, you will provide access to a growing sport that is outside the norm.

Engaging in recreational sports, provides an opportunity for students to learn that there are avenues to stay fit, find joy, and build a sense of belonging in their adult lives as well.
