Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are a remarkable group of 6th through 12th graders at an inner-city school in Washington, DC. My school caters to students from all over our nation's capital. Learners in my class come from a variety of backgrounds, and many of them are bilingual. Often times it is the students who are teaching me. This helps make going into school every day a joy.
Despite the minority and low-income status of the majority of our students, our school is dedicated to preparing all of our students to go to college.
Many of my students are learning English as a second language, and most need hands-on experience with the content in order to be ready to take on college level work.
My Project
Streamlining lab activities is a science teacher's greatest challenge. Many of our activities require precise measurement of tiny volumes of different solutions. The materials in this project will go a long way is aiding the execution of several labs across the science. We are currently using outdated material that is likely to break/malfunction during a lab. Having these pipettes to quickly measure and transfer solution would go a long way towards making the labs safer and easier to complete. In my experience, the more efficiently a student is able to get through a lab, the more time she or he will be able to spend analyzing the data and building understanding.
