My students need the lab coats for experiments that we may do in class. My students wear uniforms and many of that cannot afford new uniforms when one is damaged.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a very wide variety of students. I am on the SPED track which means that the students I serve are not just culturally diverse, but very diverse in the ways in which they learn. I teach in the KCKPS school district and the majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch, so much that we offer both free breakfast and lunch. My students are very bright, but many of them have not yet been exposed to the world of loving school, science in particularly.
My Project
These lab coats will be used when students need to complete an experiment to hopefully deter in the harm of their uniform clothes. Many of the students I serve cannot afford new school uniforms if one is damaged for whatever reason. Science can sometimes get messy and it is essential to look for ways which avoid students being discouraged from participating.
For many of my ESL students, it is their first time having a science experience.
I think that it will benefit them greatly to receive the same experiences that suburban children get to have. All students deserve an equal opportunity to learn and be safe.
