Currently, I am teaching a self-contained kindergarten classroom. All my students have special needs and varying levels of ability. I also closely work with the first and second grade self-contained classrooms. Our students come from a low-income community, and there is a struggle for supplies.
Each of these students has their own unique needs and ways of learning but they have one thing in common: they need to be successful.
With this being said, my students need opportunities to accommodate their needs in special education by incorporating hands-on and high interest learning. We need snacks, cleaning wipes, laminating pouches and various school supplies. These materials will give my students the chance to be successful by breaking down barriers to understanding with visuals, hands-on support, and multi-sensory activities to practice the skills we are teaching in all academic areas.
My students are unique individuals with different life stories to share and different educational and social/emotional needs that I strive to address. It is important that the students have the supplies they need to be successful.
My Project
My kindergarten students are a part of our special education program. We are a self-contained room of students with various learning and behavior difficulties. More than half of our school's students are from low-income households. These factors make it difficult to purchase necessary materials to began our school year.
In order to assist with school spending that our parents face, I want to provide my classroom with snacks, cleaning wipes, and basic supplies needed to began our next school year.
My students are always eager to learn and come to school; however, it is difficult to do so when you do not have the materials you need. Snacks will keep their bellies full and ready to learn, cleaning wipes will help with personal needs as well as keeping our room clean and healthy, and school supplies such as magnetic numbers, laminating sheets, and markers will help students interact with their academics and be more engaged.
