My school is a top-ranked school in my state, but that does not mean that all my students are at the top of their game in academics. The students that I teach are as diverse in their learning capabilities as the diversity in the different counties in my state. The honors students that I have are ready for anything I put before them and are eager to set the world on fire. What my special needs students lack in academic ability, they make up for with their effort.
The students that I teach are high school students from rural North Carolina with an influx of military families that help bring a global awareness to our school.
What they all share is a yearning to do their best and to succeed in the 21st century. They work well with others and give their best efforts in all that they do.
My Project
Students often struggle with what they are supposed to annotate when they closely read a passage. With the strategies in Kylene Beers's and Robert Probst's book Notice and Note, my students will become better readers who have a deeper understanding of text.
My students will use the transparent sticky notes to annotate directly on their text without destroying the books for future students.
They will have direct dialogue with the text furthering their understanding.
The strategies in Notice and Note work with my students. The transparent sticky notes will help foster the deep understanding necessary for students to become independent, strong readers.
