Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my third-grade students come from low-income single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are uneducated and not able to help their children develop reading skills. On the first day of school, more than 90% of the students that entered my classroom were not reading at a third-grade level. These students are hard working and goal oriented, they just need reading materials that will help them to develop the reading skills they need in order to achieve their academic goals.
My students are part of a T.E.A.M.
because we believe that Together Everyone Achieves Mastery. At the end of the year, my third graders must pass an online state test in order to go to fourth grade. My students do not come to school with a love a literacy. I know that by incorporating different genres into our daily literacy lessons my students will reach their goals, and become third-grade readers.
My Project
My students would love to have new books in our classroom library. Superhero books featuring some of their favorite characters, but will help them learn about positive character traits. Books like Who is Stan Lee, Guys Read: Heroes & Villains, Captain Awesome and the Ultimate Spelling Bee, and Red Riding Hood, Superhero: A Graphic Novel will help students gain the power of reading and literacy.
Superheroes can be positive role models, and these easy reading books will inspire students to be real life superheros by being kind, trustworthy, caring and responsible.
I am always being asked about super hero books, but I only select the best ones that encourage kindness and are not violent. These books will actively promote good character traits, and I would love to be able to share these titles with some of our beginning readers. They are high interest and beneficial to the community. The storage bins and posters will be displayed in the classroom library to help create a visual stimulating area that student are eager to utilize. Please help us by being our Superhero.
