This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I call out "Are we all met?" "Pat, pat!" they reply. Now I know my students are ready to start making Shakespeare! My 8th grade Theatre class begins each day with those two small lines from A Midsummer Night's Dream, just a small fast of Shakespeare until now!

Our school is a Title I, Public Charter located in Los Angeles.

My 8th grade students have chosen Theatre Arts as their elective and they want to be in this class, and learn to use their creative talents.

My Project

My students will be studying Shakespeare through the lens of Macbeth. We will be embarking on a journey that will ask the students to read, memorize and perform Macbeth with a combination of original text and contemporary language. Looking at Macbeth in this way will introduce them to classic literature in a positive and fun environment.

When I ask my class how many people have heard of Shakespeare, less than 5 students raise their hands.

I want my students to take a way from my class a positive experience with literature and performance that only a theatre class can provide! When my students see that they can tackle Shakespeare then future challenges may be a little less scary and totally possible.
