Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The mission statement of my school: "We are committed to go beyond excellence by achieving greatness in arts, athletics, and academics through high expectations, respectful communications and team work from a foundation of integrity and love." I love my students. I have great bunch of local kids. 90% of them live within a few miles of the school. 100% of them get free lunch. Most of them live below the poverty line but they all come to our great school and feel success.

As Tupac said, "Long live the rose that grew from concrete." My students are an inspiration for their determination, their perseverance and their tolerance.

They live in small, loving homes with large families with parents/guardians that work many jobs just to get by. I am humbled everyday by their effort and achievement.

My Project

I teach an teach an intervention class at my school for students who struggle academically and/or behaviorally. The purpose of the class is to give the students some time in small groups to work on some social emotional learning and some metacognition. I believe in the power of service projects to improve a person's self-image. So we are going to work on some service projects in my class. This loom set will allow the students to learn a cool new craft (making beanies and such), and then donate their handmade wares to people in need.
