Knights Investigate: Building STEM Thinkers Through Literacy and Hands-On Learning

Help me give my students These materials integrate STEM and literacy through robotics, coding, science investigations, engineering, informational texts, and writing activities, providing K–5 students hands-on opportunities to investigate, problem-solve, read, write, design, and create.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will transform learning at LBJ by giving students hands-on STEM and literacy experiences that make learning active, meaningful, and exciting. Our Ozobot Evo Engineering Kits and Botley Coding Robot Classroom Set will introduce students to coding, sequencing, engineering, problem-solving, and computational thinking. Students will design pathways, test solutions, identify errors, and revise their work, helping them develop perseverance and critical-thinking skills.

Our students will also become scientists through the Physical Science Activity Labs, Electricity Activity Labs, Ocean Science Kits, Easy-View Early Science Kits, Rock Cycle Kits, prepared microscope slides, jumbo magnifiers, and Seasons & Weather Theme Boxes.

These materials will allow students to investigate concepts through observation and experimentation rather than only reading about them. Students will explore electricity, matter, weather, oceans, rocks, plants, animals, and other science concepts while recording observations, discussing evidence, and explaining their conclusions.

The Life Cycles, Animals, Sea Life, and Solar System Science Viewers, along with the interactive Solar System models, will provide students with engaging visual experiences that strengthen science vocabulary and conceptual understanding. These resources are especially valuable for elementary students because they make concepts that may be difficult to visualize more concrete.

Literacy is intentionally connected to our STEM learning. The National Geographic Science Readers and Smithsonian STEAM informational texts will allow students to practice reading informational text while building science background knowledge and academic vocabulary. Students will read, analyze, discuss, and write about scientific topics, strengthening both science and literacy skills.

Our Story Mode Activated! writing prompts and Ultimate Writing Prompt Books will provide students with frequent opportunities to develop ideas, organize their thinking, write creatively, and communicate effectively. Students can also use their STEM investigations as inspiration for writing, allowing them to explain experiments, describe discoveries, develop STEM-related stories, and support their thinking with details and evidence
