This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

K'mari's Korner Purple Room is a calming room to assist our students who have experienced various traumas, as well as, grief and loss. The room will be a place for our students to support their overall social-emotional well-being.

The calming room is affectionately named for one of our students who tragically passed away at the beginning of our 2023-2024 school year.

The requested items will assist in creating a Sensory Environment to address the needs of our students individually and in a group. The color purple symbolizes peace and creativity. From a psychological perspective, the color purple promotes harmony of the mind, and emotions to promote mental balance, stability, and peace of mind. Purple is uplifting and calming to the brain and central nervous system.

Our students have experienced an insurmountable amount of loss during the end of the last school year and the beginning of the 2023-2024 school. They have continued to persevere through trauma, grief, and loss. K'mari's Korner will be a place of peace for our students and an SEL support.
