My Project

I love the joy my students bring to the classroom. When I introduced phonics to my students at the beginning of the year, about 85% of my students were motivated from the start to the finish of the lesson. The other 15% tried their best, but still weren't motivated. So I changed it up for my students. I taught my students a phonics rap that I made up on the spot. We added dance moves and gave a couple of solos. We would do this at the start of each lesson.

This integration of music and phonics greatly increased student engagement.

A Bluetooth speaker would enhance this already joyful time of the day by filling the classroom with music. I also incorporated physical fitness. I would do push-ups, jumping jacks, or sit-ups whenever my students got a correct answer. My 15% of students who were once unmotivated, were now motivated by the thought of making me do the workouts. Now they know they can do the work and phonics is now fun for them. To celebrate, we are requesting new books for our classroom library that helps us show love for ourselves. We will use the cricut supplies (vinyl) as well to make cups and water bottles to design swag that celebrates our progress.
