King Tut Comes to Life

My students need a class trip for 135 students to experience the King Tut Exhibit at the Indianapolis Children's Museum. Requested is the cost of admission and the audio sets.

This project expired on May 15, 2009.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a king by the age of 9? With your help first, second and third grade students can experience what it must have been like to be King Tut. I teach as part of a team of 6 Primary Multiage teachers(Grades 1,2,and 3) in a Title I School with a large population of free and reduced lunch students. There are 135 students in our program. We are proud to have 53 countries represented in our school population.

In our mulitage classrooms, we teach the State Standards through various themes using hands on activities and real life experiences. In the fall of 2009, we will begin our study of Ancient Egypt. This is a theme that is always of great interest to our students. Their enthusiasm for learning all about things like how the pyramids were built, friction, pulleys and levers, Egyptian life, and Egyptian games is amazing.

We became aware of an amazing opportunity for our students earlier this semester. King Tut's exhibit will be at the Indianapolis Children's Museum. What a fantastic way for students to experience what life must have been like for the Ancient Egyptians. However, the cost of the admission to the exhibit is more than we can ask of our students. We need the help to cover the cost of the exhibit admission for all 135 of our students and the audio sets.

One parent who saw the King Tut visit when he was 10 years old told me that it was an experience that he would never forget. He later brought me the exhibit program that he got on that trip. It made me realize that this trip could have the same sort of impact on our students. Most of our students would never have the opportunity to visit the King Tut Exhibit if they do not go with a school group. It would just be too costly. This is where you can help. You can help ensure that our students can REALLY experience life in the times of King Tut. What an awesome opportunity you could provide to a group of young students!
