My students come from one of the lowest income areas in our state. Most students come from homes of trauma and because of this have a difficult time focusing in class on a daily basis.
Many students are not focused in class because the constant thought of what will happen after school is on their minds.
While being in one of the lowest income areas in our state we are also one of the largest elementary schools in our district.
My students need help with building positive character traits to help them in the classroom and which they can use throughout their lives. Many of the students in my class come from homes of trauma and do not understand how to communicate their feelings in a healthy manner. These books will help them find a healthy way to articulate what they are feeling and help them to become positive members of society.
We care about others.
One of the most important things for my class is that they care about others. The books Each Kindness, The Jelly Donut Difference, and Do Unto Otters will teach students how to show others kindness. A Bad Case of Tattle Mouth, My Mouth is a Volcano, and Decibella and Her 6-Inch Voice will teach students how to problem solve with others and how to share their thoughts with the class in a respectful manner. Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun and The Juice Box Bully will teach students confidence. The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes will teach students growth mindset and the importance of never giving up.
