My students need new books that encourage kindness, working together in a positive manner and the importance of respecting diverse cultural differences. K'Nex Education STEM Exploration Roller Coaster Buildind Set will promote working together.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am blessed to teach a group of curious 2nd graders at a Title I school. Despite the challenges many students face outside the classroom we are building a small community of readers eager to wonder, work and make a difference in the world.
My students are creative, very inquisitive and full of energy.
They love being mobile, reading books and seeking out new wonders.
Many households receive free or reduced meals based on their socioeconomic status. Limited resources have prevented some of my students from experiencing the community outside their normal surroundings. That is why I have made it a goal to greet them daily with compassion and open their minds to new educational experiences.
I want to introduce them to exciting places, history and a sense of who they can become. The atmosphere of learning, experiencing wonder and enjoying new and adventurous ways to learn will help bridge the gap between home and school.
My Project
My 2nd grade team uses Rooted in Reading as a part of our read aloud curriculum. Over the past two years, my students have listened to several of the curriculum books online because we do not own class copies. Teacher read alouds promote a positive experience that help readers love reading.
Reading books to my students, sharing pictures and stopping for discussions provide opportunities for comments and connections to their background knowledge.
Commander Magnetic Building Blocks & K'Nex Roller Coaster Sets will play pivotal roles in students using lessons of kindness and cooperation learned by reading and sharing ideas collaboratively.
