Kindness and Culture

My students need books that teach kindness and diversity for the beginning of the school year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my third-grade students come from low-income single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of the parents are uneducated and not able to help their children develop reading skills. On the first day of school, more than 90% of the students that entered my classroom were not reading at a third-grade level. These students are hard working and goal oriented, they just need reading materials that will help them to develop the reading skills they need in order to achieve their academic goals.

My students are part of a T.E.A.M.

because we believe that Together Everyone Achieves Mastery. At the end of the year, my third graders must pass an online state test in order to go to fourth grade. My students do not come to school with a love a literacy. I know that by incorporating different genres into our daily literacy lessons my students will reach their goals, and become third-grade readers.

My Project

I have a very diverse class of students. We are asking for books to help students learn more about diverse cultures and help my students connect with students from different cultural backgrounds.

Learning about different cultures and traditions will help children understand and be more accepting to those who are different than they are.

These different books will help expand my classroom library for years to come, and open up an array of different books like National Geographic Kids Readers: Ancient Egypt and School Days Around the World. Other books like My Mouth Is a Volcano! and The Recess Queen will teach students to be kind to one another and use appropriate word choices. They will also help promote a positive classroom environment. This donation will help to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment where students thrive academically.
