Access to technology is an urgent need for my students.
Our suburban school has almost twelve-hundred students.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Memphis. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, and Arabic.
As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. Our school is home to one of the most award 4H programs in the city. Our students set up an outdoor classroom last year. We are also home to a STEM program where our students conduct research alongside of college professors. Our FCCLA Club has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and won many awards. We also sponsor a multitude of teams and clubs that fit the interests of all students. This year, many are getting involved in drama, as well.
My sixth grade English Language Learners will benefit so much from the audiobook feature these Kindle Fire tablets can provide! With these tablets, they will have access to a dictionary to help them learn meanings of new words. Having a text read aloud is one of the best accommodations one can provide for second language learners.
They will also be able to practice their English language skills on the tablets using the online program I purchased for them.
The program addresses all of our state's standards for language arts. I can't wait to watch their English skills grow beyond their wildest dreams! I prepare Kahoot! practice activities for them and now they will be able to play from their own device as they check their reading comprehension and participate in debates about the topics.
