My Students
This year our school will be using a hybrid model for student learning. I will be teaching Reading, Writing, and Language Arts to 21 students in the classroom and 10 students remotely. Our school is located on an island on the rural Eastern Shore of Virginia. Students attending come from homes on the island and from the nearby mainland. Our school is small in size and family centered with approximately 260 students. Everyone knows everyone in this small community. Community support is abundant. Our students love learning and active in community events.
Reading is an integral part of the learning process.
Being a reading teacher, I am constantly emphasizing how becoming a good reader affects their entire education. With school reopening, there are many obstacles our teachers are facing. One of the biggest challenges I face is the ability for children to be reading independent books of their choosing.
My Project
The Kindles will be kept at school for students to read independently. Reading is an extremely important part of every child's academic success. Knowing how to read affects learning in all other subject areas. It is critical for students to be reading as much as possible in their formative years. At this time, students will not be able to check out books at our school library. We are also not able to put out libraries in our classroom. Students will be downloading books of their choice to read during instructional time.
