My Students

Research proves that students need to listen to fluent reading to improve their own reading comprehension. Using technology in the classroom to enhance and enrich our reading curriculum will allow students to go beyond the traditional textbook learning. My students love to go beyond the textbook!

My students are from varying levels of economic backgrounds and educational levels.

Many are English learners and are struggling to learn English as well as all our new Common Core standards. They are excited and eager learners who love being engaged with content and new ideas.

My Project

My students need 2 Kindles with headphones, cases, and a power outlet for our listening center. My students are allowed choices of activities that are carefully selected to their reading levels. One targeted activity will be Listen to Reading on the Kindles through audio books, Raz kids reading program, and websites. By opening our students’ minds to wonderful enriching novels they can hear fluid reading and will be able to develop fluency in their own reading by emphasizing expression and pace to become motivated, lifelong readers. They can also utilize features such as the instant dictionary, text to speech, highlighting text, and note taking on the Kindles to help them in their understanding of English. By adding 2 more Kindles, headphones, cases, and a power outlet to our classroom I will have enough tablets to engage 6 students at a time during reading centers. My students who are English learners will be able to model fluent reading.

My continued development of enriching lessons that correlate to Common Core standards for high level text complexity and active engagement, will result in high student achievement.

Students will be engaged in reading on the Kindles and learning high level vocabulary. Students who engage in text on the Kindles will also have increased reading stamina by reading longer, complex, and more engaging material, which should be evidenced in higher reading comprehension and vocabulary test scores.
