I work at a rural school in the High Desert of Southern California. My school is a Title 1 school with a high population of low income students, second language learners, and foster children. My school is a K-8 school with an emphasis in visual and performing arts.
My students are eager and hard working learners, but come from low income families that are limited on the supplies and experiences that can be provided for their children.
As part of my academic program, I like to include as many extra activities and celebrations as I can. I often fund these projects with my own money.
To help supplement the projects, I write grants and apply for donations from local businesses. Anything and everything helps make my students' first year in school a memorable one.
My Project
This project will help give my students access to technology in the classroom by providing them access to Kindle Fire Kids Tablets. My students are very limited in their access to technology and academic games and programs.
These five Kindle Fire Kids Tablets will hopefully be the beginning of a classroom set of tablets for my students.
As students finish their classwork, they can access the tablets to practice much needed skills to enhance their academic progress. Easy access will be the key to a more technological savvy classroom.
With the first five, it will open up access for my students. With a classroom set, each student could use the tablet whenever their was free time or they needed extra practice. This is a long term goal, but the five tablets would be a great start to meeting this goal.
