Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I, K-5 magnet school that educates almost 700 students each year. The students at my school come from a wide range of family dynamics. Some live in traditional households, while others live with single parents or extended family. My students' economic situations are just as varied as their family dynamics and more than sixty percent of our school qualifies for free lunch.

A large percentage of our school population consists of English language learners.

Seventy-five percent of my class speaks more than one language and often English is not spoken when they are at home. Regardless of these factors, every one of my students always possesses a passion for learning, exploring, and creating.

My Project

Fun and engaging games and puzzles are a must have in a Kindergarten classroom! Most of our day is spent working in small groups and rotating through different teacher led and independent centers. Kindergarten students learn through exploration and play and need resources they can use independently.

Learning should be fun and these interactive hands-on games will help students learn through play.

The Alphabet Mystery Box and the Pop and Learn! Letter and Numbers Game will be an opportunity for me to lead my students through learning the letter names and connecting sounds to the letters. The Alphabet Acorns, Alphabet Dinosaurs, and the Alphabet Ant puzzles are all activities that students can explore independently while I work with students in small groups.

The Vowel Teaching Tubs will help me to teach the trickiest letters - the vowels! These tubs will allow students to practice vowel sounds as they explore the objects in each tub and sort them by vowel sounds.
