My students need sports equipment they can use during recess to be shared with four other Kindergarten and TK classes such as a class set of hula hoops, jump ropes, balance boards, scooters, and playground balls.
The students in the Spanish Immersion program are bright, energetic, and eager to learn in kindergarten. For many, kindergarten is their first formal experience in education. They are learning how to do school and discovering the many learning possibilities and discoveries in the classroom that they can then share with their families. My students come from diverse social and economic backgrounds.
The students in our classroom are lovely, intelligent, budding mathematicians, thinkers, writers, and future readers!
They will be learning a secondary language along with their classmates and learning how to support and value biliteracy and multiculturalism.
My Project
I teach Kindergarten and we share the playground with four other classes composed of Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten students, typically about 96 students on one playground. As such, we've noticed a great need at recess to try to offer more activities for students to exercise and develop their skills while they play as we have a limited amount of equipment to share with so many students. One thing we noticed last year was that during recess time, our students did not have enough equipment to equitably share when on the playground. We fee this could be improved by having more equipment we can share with all students. We noticed that when we introduced a ball or chalk, our students' energy and focus changed for the better. Our students were able to get along better, could focus on different areas of the playground to play allowing for more movement and overall, we had a much more positive energy at recess. This year we hope, with your help, we can start the year with playground equipment that can help us meet the needs of our students at recess. We feel that having access to this playground equipment at school during recess would help meet our student' needs and provide much needed materials for our students to share during their recess time.
What a difference having playground equipment can make in helping our students practice their motor skills, balance, sharing, and socializing through exercise.
We are asking for your help to obtain playground equipment such as a class set of hula hoops, 14 jump ropes, 4 Wobble boards, 6 playground ball with an air pump and mesh bag.
