This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My Kindergarten students come to school with an open mind eager to learn and to explore the world of knowledge. Our classroom is located within a Title 1, K-5 school located in Charleston, SC. Our school is located in an urban, inner city area with 100% of our students qualifying for free breakfast and lunch programs. My students come from a diverse background with an unstable and challenging home environment. My young learners struggle with staying on-task for long periods of time, therefore, directly affecting their overall academic achievement. My goal as their teacher is to provide them with every opportunity to be successful and to help close the achievement gap.

Every student is an individual who has a unique way of learning, and I would like to provide my students with a flexible learning environment so every student can achieve academic success!

My Project

This year I will be introducing flexible seating in my classroom and taking learning to a "new seat". Flexible seating has numerous benefits, including allowing students to have responsibility for their individual learning while keeping them energized throughout the day. By adding flexible options such as stability balls, wobble chairs, seat cushions, and stools it will allow students to become more engaged and focused while still being active without disrupting the overall learning environment.

Kindergartners are just starting to learn how to become a successful student within the classroom and flexible seating is the "key" to success!

My diverse group of eager minds would benefit greatly from being able to take a proactive approach to their learning.
