Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 25 amazing students! I work at a Title I school. These energetic children are enthusiastic and motivated learners! My pupils have a unique variety of abilities, interests, and learning styles. In kindergarten, it is developmentally appropriate to have lessons where the kids have opportunities to interact hands-on and creatively. In kindergarten, we must focus on rigorous academics, free play, creativity, and developing fine and gross motor skills.
I hope to provide my students with the appropriate level of books to help each child progress at his or her optimal level of achievement.
My Project
Watching kids read their first words and write their first sentences is part of the magic of kindergarten.
I am requesting four copies of "PM Readers Platinum Edition First Grade Red Set 1".
These books are at a level C. I like to have a well-stocked leveled library in my classroom. A leveled library allows children to learn to read at their individual pace. I can differentiate reading instruction to each child's personal level. Transitioning from level B to C is a big jump in kindergarten. It can often be a hard jump for kindergarten. Often times, leveled books can range in difficulty. The Rigby readers are leveled very appropriately. I am requesting multiple copies of these books so I can use them for small group instruction. These books will help transition the children from level B to C. They will assist my children in becoming independent and more fluent readers.
Some of these books have kindergarten STEM concepts. Learning and exploring about plants and animals covers some of the children's science standards. Integrating reading with science helps prepare the children for their educational path way to the real world.
I also use my leveled library as a check-out system for the children. The families are always welcome to borrow books for additional practice.
