In many schools the arts are devalued and left unfunded. Our school community refuses to leave the arts behind and seeks to empower our students through powerful theatrical experiences. Please help us inspire our kindergarteners' love of the arts with a day at the theater.
Our students are a curious, enthusiastic bunch of 5 and 6 year olds who love to learn.
We are four kindergarten classes with 5 teachers who try to make everyday a meaningful and engaging experience for our students through hands-on activities and student centered learning. Our school is an inclusive school where students of all needs and abilities are included in the classroom at all times. Our school focuses not only on academics but on the arts, technology, and service learning.
This year our students were lucky enough to participate in a theater partnership where they studied Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and performed in a Renaissance Fair. Students danced and sang for an audience inspired by young peoples' love for and understanding of Shakespeare and drama. It is with this experience in mind that we seek to encourage our students' love of theater with this field trip.
My Project
We are requesting bus transportation to and from the theater and tickets to attend a theatrical production of Brave Irene, a popular children's book. All kindergarten classes will be studying the book "Brave Irene" as a part of our Language Arts curriculum with connections to Social Studies. Though our students have studied theater, most have never been to a real theater and had a ticket with a special seat number, just for them. It will be an amazing culmination of our unit of study to be able to see the book we have studied spring to life with characters and music in a real theater.
By funding this project you will be supporting the arts in schools and helping us teach our kindergartners that by using our imaginations, we can bring any book to life and discover the magic of reading.
