My Students

How many of you enjoy hearing a good story? I know I do. My boys and girls are in need of more books and CDs to listen to at the Listening Center. They get tired of listening to the same few. I would love to have a nice selection so they can pick which story they are in the mood to hear!

My school is in a rural community.

The boys and girls come to kindergarten eager to learn! The good thing about teaching kindergarten is they love school. It is my job to make sure they continue with that attitude and try their very best each and every day! My students come with a range of knowledge. Some with preschool backgrounds and already knowing how to read, while others have had limited education experience and don't even know how to write their own name or any of their letters.

My Project

In my classroom we have a Reading Block, and during that time I pull back students based on their current reading level to develop lessons based on their current needs. This helps students learn at their own level. While doing these groups, the class is interacting at many hands-on Literacy Stations. One of these is a Listening Center. The only problem is I have very limited multiple copies of books with tapes/CDs to match. This means I can't use this center every week. I try to switch it out, but the boys and girls love it. Not only is it enjoyable for them, it helps them to hear fluency in stories, learn to track words when reading, and hear expression during stories. These are great skills that kindergarten students need!

It is very hard for classroom teachers to get needed materials to provide enriching learning experiences with all of today's budget cuts to the local schools.

Please help fund my project and allow my students to enjoy our Listening Station on a weekly basis with great literature selections!
