Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is very diverse both culturally and economically. Our staff and families do our best to ensure that all children have the necessary tools to be successful learners. The number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch is high enough that the school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students and weekend meals to many.

My classroom is filled with students who come from many different backgrounds and speak many different languages.

For many, this is their first experience in a school setting. They need exposure to as many different types of learning experiences as possible, to help them catch up to their peers who had early childhood experiences.

My Project

This year we had to move kindergarten lunch time later in day. My students will be going more than 4 hours between breakfast and lunch. I teach in a low income area and my entire school gets free breakfast and lunch. Many parents will have a hard time sending in a daily snack for their child.

My kindergarten students need a morning snack to keep their bellies full and to help keep them focused on learning.

This year it will be even harder to afford snacks for my classroom. Usually I can buy a large tub of animal crackers or pretzels fairly inexpensively . However With COVID all snacks have to be individually wrapped and this can get very costly. Help me provide snack for my young learners.
