My Project

Kindergarten students love to dig deep and get a little dirty, while growing and learning in our school garden. My curious kindergarten students enjoy observing and exploring the outdoors, rather than just learning within the four walls of our classroom. It is such a thrill to see their eyes open wide with joy when they see the seeds they planted grow into little sprouts that emerge through the soil.

The specific items I am requesting in this garden project will help with soil fertility, and allow the healthy soil to provide all the needed nutrients for our seeds to grow into hardy plants.

The Miracle-Gro soil, coco and perlite mix, worm castings, and bone meal, will help to ensure that our plants receive the environment that they need to successfully grow and thrive. The fertilizer will allow our garden to be fed over the spring, summer, and fall months. We will use the seeds to grow vegetables for our classroom, our school lunch program, and our home food backpack program for students who need food support over the weekends. The cedar elevated garden beds will allow our school to have a specific spot to grow lettuce, herbs, peppers, and various other vegetables.

Our kindergarten class would like to make flower thank you cards, so we did request a watercolor flower painting book. We will also be using pressed dahlia flowers, and other various flowers to make the cards.

Our gardening goals are to grow hundreds of pounds of food to share with our school family and community, designate specific raised garden beds for herbs and lettuce, get a few kitchen appliances to cook special garden recipes to share, and to instill a love of gardening for our students and community.
