Kindergarten is the first year in public school for many students. This is the year that they learn how to be a responsible school citizen, follow new classroom routines and procedures, and set both academic and social goals. These specially designed resources will remind them that learning can be fun and engaging.\r\n\r\nCelebrating all student learning, and having each student receive and read the same book, 101 Dalmatians, will build a sense of community and promote positive mental health both inside and outside of the classroom. By having each kindergarten student reading the same book, it will foster a love of reading, build a strong sense of our school family, and encourage family involvement. This shared reading experience will create a common ground for discussion with their peers, while boosting literacy skills at the same time. This will also develop comprehension skills and critical thinking skills when students are encouraged to think critically about the book's themes and characters. Above all, reading the same book will instill a love of reading. My goal is to help nurture a joy of reading that extends beyond the classroom and becomes a lifelong habit.\r\n\r\nThank you for making the 101st day of school a moment that they will remember and treasure forever, and one that inspires them to keep working hard and believing in themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1764562835846,"projectUrl":"project/101-days-smarter-in-math-and-literacy-us/9934627/","projectTitle":"101 Days Smarter in Math and Literacy Using Dalmatian Resources","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Elsaesser","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3773650_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1515513986904","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-elsaesser"},{"teacherId":3773650,"projectId":9431387,"letterContent":"We are overjoyed with our new writing journals for our classroom. Unbelievably, our project was fully funded in less than 24 hours. That means that we were able to welcome the new carpet into my classroom before the summer, allowing my 24/25 students to enjoy it, too! \r\n\r\nMy previous learning carpet had run its course and was becoming very difficult to clean. In addition, the sit spots were very close together and students rubbed elbows and knees often. The bright colors, though charming, did not provide a very soothing environment for the students.\r\n\r\nOur brand new carpet blends perfectly with the blue ocean theme in the classroom. The swirly whirly sit spots are well spaced out and large enough for children to sit comfortably for learning. Sadly, our swivel chair was not available from the Amazon vendor, so we did replace that item. We found two wonderful replacements for this project- a tent tunnel and a scooter. Students have been using the sensory bracelets for the past two weeks, and they are our new student favorites in our fidget basket. The soft, textured material is perfect for our long learners.
