Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique individuals who are all coming from very different circumstances. They are eager to get to school and I am just as excited to see them every day. This year, I will be teaching kindergarten. I am so excited to have a whole new group of young children and a diverse class. Being new to kindergarten I did not have the opportunity to order items for my classroom. I am hoping by using DonorsChoose, I may get some things I need to help my children reach their full potential. I am looking for some Guided reading books, flexible seating and storage to help my room and maybe even a new rug as the ones we have are very old.
I teach at a inner city school in NJ where the majority of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite so many hardships they face, they are eager to come to school and learn. They look for me every morning and wonder where am I if I am not in the classroom. I love to reassure them that I am here for them.
My Project
Guided readers will help target children on their level when they are in small group. The magnetic letters will help the children spell words and identify upper and lowercase letters. The shapes will reinforce what was taught and help struggling learners.
We need extra support in centers, and these will help us be more constructive.
We are striving to be more learning centered rather than just play. Learning is the goal throughout the day. Whether they are with me or in centers, it needs to be skills based. These materials will be the extra support we need in class.
